Rügen International Film Festival aims to present the films from the Baltic Sea countries and introduce versatile cinema of the region with the audience appeal and of high-artistic value.
The Festival taking place on the Rügen Island at the German Baltic Sea coast, an intersection of diverse cultures, becomes a meeting point of film traditions that stem from similar and yet different societies such as Poland, Germany, Scandinavia, the Baltic States, and Russia.
The Festival’s competition section focuses on films from the Baltic Sea countries while sidebar programmes feature films on islands and islander’s lives everywhere in the world, international cinema and current local and regional production.
Alongside the versatile film program the audience of the festival have the opportunity to take part in enriching master classes, special events with the guests of honour, cultural and musical events as well as the chance to experience historical and cultural richness and the beauty of the Rügen Island.
The Rügen International Film Festival serves not only as a cultural highlight, but also as a meeting place for the regional and local film industry. It provides a platform for exchange of the ideas and expertise.
